Suffolk is the perfect setting for a cottage holiday… unspoilt countryside, ancient cities, traditional towns, beautiful beaches and old-fashioned family fun are all to be found in this part of East Anglia.

Suffolk Cottage Holidays

Suffolk is steeped in history, and its coast and countryside have long been a source of inspiration to artists and writers. It’s the ideal place to get away from it all, and once you’ve experienced a holiday here you’ll want to come back again and again.

The heritage coast is home to some outstanding seaside resorts, from upmarket towns to historic hamlets, all of them ideal for a beach-based break. Aldeburgh, Southwold, Felixstowe and Thorpeness all retain the grace and dignity that have endeared them to generations of visitors, and today are home to the shops, restaurants and hostelries that make a self-catering holiday hassle-free.

A wealth of historical sites include the Anglo-Saxon burial ground at Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge and Grime's Graves near Brandon, the only neolithic flint mine open to visitors in Britain.

The county town of Ipswich, England's oldest continuously settled Anglo-Saxon town, is home to some stunning historic buildings including twelve medieval churches, while its Tudor Christchurch Mansion boasts the best collection of Constable and Gainsborough works outside London. Other cultural attractions in the county include the beautifully-restored Maltings Concert Hall at Snape, famous for its Benjamin Britten connections and venue for the annual Aldeburgh Festival.

"Whatever you want from a cottage holiday, you’ll find it in Suffolk."

Diverse landscapes and an impressive network of waymarked paths make Suffolk a good place to explore on foot, with long distance walking routes including the 50-mile Suffolk Coast Path from Felixstowe to Lowestoft, the 60-mile Sandlings Walk between the eastern fringes of Ipswich and Southwold, and the 42-mile Stour and Orwell Walk from Felixstowe to Cattawade and Manningtree, around two of the most beautiful estuaries in East Anglia.

And wildlife lovers will find plenty of interest throughout the county, with a trip to the RSPB’s flagship Minsmere Nature Reserve a must-do for every holidaymaker.
